The Great Treasures of the Kremlin, Moscow

Ancient Cathedral of Assumption, Kremlin had been erect in 1326, during the reign of Ivan Kalita, Moscow first Grand Prince.  During the reign of Ivan the Great, in 1472, an earthquake hit Moscow leaving wreckage where local architect had been struggling to replace the Kremlin's ancient Cathedral of Assumption.  Messagers soon headed south of Russia, returning with Greek and Italian architects led by one of the greatest talents of his craft in all Europe, Ridolfo Aristotelo Fioravanti of Bologna.

Fioravanti saw his new Cathedral of Assumption, consecrated in 1479, then stayed on for the rest of his life in the service of the Russian, Czar, Ivan the Great as his chief architect.
