The idea of "Nikola Tesla Day" has existed since February 14, 2002 when the Tesla Memorial Society of New York made a request for a "Nikola Tesla Day - A World Day of Science" to the General Secretary of the the United Nations, Kofi Annan.

Today, there is new hope that a "Nikola Tesla Day - World Day of Science" will actually become a reality.

In July 2012, Ban Ki-moon, General Secretary of the United Nations was on a peace mission to the Balkan states of Serbia and Croatia. On his visit to Zagred, Croatia, he delcared that he supports the idea of "Nikola Tesla Day - A World Day of Science" through the United Nations and suggested that an official inquiry for "Nikola Tesla Day" be made to the United Nations.

At an official reception for the UN General Secretary, Davor Bernardic, Mayor of Zagreb, informed the UN Secretary General about the proposal for "Nikola Tesla Day". The Tesla Memorial Society of New York is very grateful to Mr. Davor Benardic for informing the UN General Secretary for the proposal of "Nikola Tesla Day". We are also grateful to the "Nikola Tesla Society - Genius for the Future" for their proposal.

The Tesla Memorial Society of New York is appealing to the governments of the previous Yugoslav Republic - Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Slovenia and Montenegro to sponsor a joint resolution to the United Nations for voting in the General Assembly.

Nikola Tesla's name and achievements are a cohesive factor for peace in the Balkans.

The Tesla Memorial Society of New York's letter to Kofi Annan, Secretary-General, United Nations, in 2002 is posted below :
